- Evaluate equipment failure modes and implement corrective actions to eliminate or reduce recurrence.
- Review engineering specifications and drawings recommending design improvements to enhance reliability.
- Conduct alignment checks, vibration monitoring and thermographic analysis of critical equipment.
- Monitor equipment performance, analyze failure history and identify trends for reliability improvement.
- Inspect and sign off quality assurance and control documents to ensure compliance with standards.
- Ensure safe execution of plant and equipment installations with a focus on maintainability.
- Supervise condition monitoring activities and ensure tools and systems are properly maintained and calibrated.
- Collaborate with other mine sites to share and adopt best practices in reliability engineering.
- Provide technical input during design reviews and project planning sessions.
- Set performance targets for Condition Monitoring and Lubrication Technicians and monitor progress.
- Mentor, coach and develop technical staff to support succession planning and team growth.
- Observe operations for non-compliance with legal or corporate requirements and escalate issues.
- Participate in inspections, audits and investigations, ensuring timely completion of remedial actions.
- Support continuous improvement and CSR initiatives across engineering operations.
- Administer the Preventive and Predictive Maintenance program, regularly reviewing checklist quality and frequency.
- Develop and maintain constructive relationships with external stakeholders including contractors and service providers.
- Coordinate and participate in advanced detection activities including vibration analysis, oil analysis, ultrasonic testing, infrared inspections and non-destructive testing.
- Develop cost-effective lubrication strategies to maximize equipment life and reliability.
- Analyse maintenance reports to ensure timely planning and execution of repairs before equipment deterioration.
- Interface with Maintenance and Operations teams to prioritize inspections and repair work.
- Manage equipment history records to support maintenance planning and environmental compliance.
- Conduct reliability studies to reduce maintenance costs and improve equipment performance.
- Provide leadership in implementing maintenance tools, systems, and standards across the plant.
- Develop and maintain maintenance standards and advise on recurring issues and improvement opportunities which should be addressed on a regular basis.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering discipline from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in reliability engineering, preferably within the mining industry.
- Certificate of Competency issued by the Mines Inspectorate Division of the Minerals Commission is desirable.
- Proficiency in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Strong knowledge of condition monitoring techniques including vibration analysis and thermography.
- Solid understanding of reliability-centered maintenance and equipment design principles.
- Analytical reporting and problem-solving skills to support decision-making.
- Maintenance downtime analysis using MTBF and MTTR.
- Troubleshooting, Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and quality.
- Team player with a strong safety mindset.
