- Assist in conducting planned inspection & audits using checklist periodically, aimed at evaluating compliance with standards and checking the state of safety of all equipment while enforcing regulatory compliance.
- Provide support to the construction team by maintaining a visible presence on the field performing site inspections to ensure relevant risks are adequately managed.
- Support direct Manager to deliver the work of the Department within specified timeframes.
- Assist in conducting investigations into the causes of all incidents, recommending, and enforcing the implementation of remedial measures to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure compliance in conducting periodic planned job observations and planned inspections on various categories of the workmen and related project areas to enhance safe work practices.
- Assist in conducting periodic on-the-job training for the various categories of construction workers to heighten their safety awareness to ensure they carry out their tasks in a safe manner.
- Contractor management. Act on all employee environmental complaints and suggestions.
- Must have a degree in safety and environmental engineering or related field.
- A professional qualification in health and safety (such as NEBOSH IGC) will be an advantage.
- A Safety Officer Certificate of Competence from the Inspectorate Division of the Mineral Commission (IDMC) will be an advantage.
- ISO 45001 Lead Auditor Certification from a recognize institution will be an advantage.
- Must have a minimum of 3 years surface and underground experience in mining or construction projects.
- Must possess a valid Ghanaian driving license and be able to demonstrate adequate competence in driving.
- Knowledge of safety legislation and compliance standards.
- Excellent analytical, reporting, and organizational skills.
- Effective communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Proficient in MS Office and environmental data analysis tools.
- Ability to work in field conditions and multi-cultural environments.
