CLOSING DATE : 17TH SEPTEMBER 2025ROLE PURPOSEThe purpose of this role is to co-ordinate the Health, & Safety programme geared towards promotion of Safety & Health and prevention of personal injuries and property loss, proper and acceptable environmental practices, training, implementation and monitoring so as to satisfy the basic Health and Safety requirements in the Underground Operations..KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Identify hazards and conducting formal risk assessment of the underground activities and ensure that all significant risks identified from the risk assessment as well as all other sources, such as audit reports, are captured and that appropriate corrective actions are planned and implemented.
- Identify and correct unsafe work practices or conditions before they result in accident, through regular inspection and audits using checklist periodically, aimed at evaluating compliance with standards and checking the state of safety of all equipment and fostering the safety attitude among the workforce during visits.
- Ensure that all the statutory requirements that have a bearing on occupational health and Safety are adhered to.
- Conducting investigations into the causes of all accidents, recommending, and enforcing the implementation of remedial measures to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure compliance in conducting periodic planned job observations and planned inspections on various categories of the workmen and related underground plant infrastructure to enhance safe work practices.
- Ensure that PPEs supplied to workmen and other working equipment and tools meet the company's standards and enforce their use where necessary.
- Attend, participate and / or facilitate safety meetings including Safety Committee meetings and Toolbox Meetings
- Conducting periodic on-the-job training for the various categories of workers to heighten their safety awareness to ensure they carry out their tasks in a safe manner.
- Performs with considerable degree of independent accountability, technical work in support of the department's core functions and processes.
- Providing leadership and support to achieve single integrated system for management of events, risks, reports, competencies, compliances, and procedures.
- Must have a Degree in Engineering or Sciences or similar qualification from a recognised institution.
- Must have either ISO 45001 Internal or Lead Auditor's Certification.
- Must have a certification in incident investigation methodologies such as IIP, Taproot etc.
- Health and Safety Certificate of Competency from Minerals Commission of Ghana will be an advantage.
- Must poses a valid Ghanaian driving licence and must be able to drive underground.
- Must have at least 4+ years working experience with exposure to mining regulations.
- Must have an in-depth understanding and working knowledge of General Safety rules and regulations, especially Underground Safety.
- Must have experience in underground vertical conveyance and transport system.
- Must have experience in driving underground and compliance with underground traffic management.
- Ability to understand the risks associated with underground drill and blast, loco material transport safety, ventilation safety, safety associated with paste filling and unconsolidated backfilling of voids, material transfer underground, conveyors, winders and hoisting system.
- Experienced in facilitating incident investigations.
- Ability to work effectively with people, including high performing professional team.
