Job DescriptionJob DescriptionThe International Water Management Institute (IWMI) is seeking applications from enthusiastic individuals to assist with a research project in Somanya, Ghana.Join our WhatsApp Group to get notified when new Job Vacancies in Ghana are posted.During this internship, the intern will assist in the following areas:A compost and briquette plant has been constructed in Somanya, Ghana. Trials have already commenced at the plant to produce compost and non-carbonized briquette from locally available wastes such as food waste, rice husks, sawdust, market wastes and mango wastes. At the plant, the intern will provide support to conducting field agronomic trials and farmer demonstration exercises with the compost produced.
  • Set up agronomic trials for different crops using the compost produced.
  • Conduct demonstrations/capacity building exercises on compost application and its benefits with at least 25 farmers.
  • Implementing reuse options for the treated effluent from the stabilization ponds to close the water and nutrient loop, i.e., crop irrigation.
  • Conduct statistical analyses on datasets and prepare tables and relevant illustrations.
Requirements: Qualifications, exposure and skills:
  • MSc or MPhil in Agricultural Science, Crop Science, Agronomy or a related field.
  • Experience in using compost in agriculture.
  • Experience in conducting field trials and statistical analyses.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability and willingness to spend time in the field.
  • Knowledge of at least one local language in use in Ghana's Eastern region (e.g., Krobo, Ewe, Twi).
  • Experience in writing technical reports.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications.
