- Oversee daily underground mining operations, including development and production activities, and provide comprehensive shift reports to the Operations Manager.
- Ensure full compliance with all safety, mining, and statutory regulations; actively foster a strong safety culture and hazard awareness across the mine.
- Maintain a safe and compliant work environment by enforcing site policies and procedures.
- Support the establishment of performance targets and metrics; monitor and manage the performance of underground mine employees and contractors.
- Drive Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives by engaging employees, identifying improvement opportunities and prioritizing projects for implementation.
- Contribute to the development of annual operating and capital budgets in alignment with company financial guidelines and business plans.
- Assist in executing operational strategies that align with the organization's overall objectives and support growth.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on underground mining operations, including drilling, blasting, hauling and related methodologies.
- Collaborate in workforce planning by determining staffing levels and personnel requirements for underground operations.
- Support forecasting, strategic business planning (SBP), budgeting and training strategies for underground staff.
- Review shift reports to capture downtime and implement corrective actions for operational deviations.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safe work practices in compliance with regulatory and global standards.
- Promote workplace safety by eliminating injuries and illnesses through proactive leadership and risk management.
- Ensure high housekeeping standards and optimal labor utilization; compile accurate labor hours for payroll processing.
- Build team capability by identifying skill gaps, leveraging talent and implementing corrective actions to achieve operational and financial goals.
- Provide hands-on support during operational activities while ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Valid MINCOM Underground Manager's Certificate of Competency.
- Valid Ghanaian driver's license with demonstrated defensive driving skills and ability to operate vehicles underground.
- Minimum of 10 years' experience in underground mining operations, including at least 6 years in a supervisory capacity (e.g., Underground Mine Foreman).
- Strong knowledge of underground rock mechanics, mine planning, surveying and ventilation principles.
- Proven experience in underground mining methods, explosives handling, ground support systems, and backfill placement.
- Familiarity with Duty of Care Standards, Occupational Health & Safety Regulations, and Mining Inspection Act & Regulations.
- Comprehensive understanding of underground mining operations and a track record of maintaining high safety standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Strong project management and change management capabilities, with experience driving business improvement initiatives in a multinational environment.
- Effective leadership and coaching skills with the ability to transfer knowledge to team members.
- Ability to work under pressure, adapt to flexible rotations including night shifts, and maintain safety standards at all times.
