- Drive the transition from surface mining to underground operations.
- Direct the design, development and implementation of underground infrastructure, including declines, shafts, ventilation, dewatering and ground support systems.
- Manage project timelines, budgets and resources to meet key milestones and production objectives.
- Establish and execute risk management strategies and contingency plans for underground activities.
- Ensure all underground mining activities comply with Ghanaian mining regulations, company standards and international best practices.
- Ensure full compliance with Ghanaian mining laws, company standards, and global best practices.
- Champion a strong safety culture, enforcing adherence to all safety protocols and procedures.
- Oversee environmental and social programs associated with underground development.
- Collaborate with regulators, communities and stakeholders to maintain a social license to operate.
- Provide expert guidance on underground mining methods, equipment selection and operational strategies.
- Ensure integration of mine planning, geology, engineering and production teams to achieve optimal results.
- Introduce innovative technologies and practices that enhance efficiency, safety and cost control.
- Review technical designs, reports and progress updates from contractors and consultants.
- Build and lead a competent underground project team, ensuring training and skill development.
- Manage contractors, consultants and suppliers to deliver quality work on schedule.
- Foster collaboration across departments including processing, geology, safety, engineering and environment.
- Mentor and develop local talent to support long-term operational sustainability.]
- Achieve zero fatalities and prevent all incidents.
- Maintain Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) within industry benchmarks.
- Ensure 100% compliance with Ghanaian regulations and company safety standards.
- Meet development milestones (decline meters, shaft sinking, ventilation, etc.) as scheduled.
- Achieve production ramp-up targets as planned.
- Align mine plans and schedules with production forecasts.
- Communicate with project managers, team members and stakeholders to ensure alignment with the project schedule.
- Build positive relationships with regulators, communities and contractors.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and social obligations.
- Resolve stakeholder grievances promptly.
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline (master's degree is an advantage).
- Minimum of 15 years' experience in mining, including at least 5 years in senior underground project management roles.
- Proven track record in underground mine construction, development and commissioning.
- Holder of a Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency issued by MINCOM.
- In-depth knowledge of Ghanaian mining regulations and permitting processes.
- Strong technical expertise in underground rock mechanics, mine planning, surveying, and ventilation principles.
- Hands-on experience with underground mining methods, explosives handling, ground support, and backfill systems.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to coach and communicate effectively across cultures.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with and manage cross-functional teams.
