Job SummaryOur client operating in the Cocoa sector is seeking self-motivated Community Engagement Officer. The Community Engagement Officer plays a key role in ensuring that the supply chain is covered by Human Rights Due Diligence and the communities sourced from are empowered to protect children's rights.Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the relevant employees to develop the annual work plan for the designated communities.
  • Roll out Community Engagement activities across all targeted communities.
  • Conduct Child Labor Monitoring and Remediation System (CLMRS) activities at household and community level (surveys, awareness, follow-up visits...).
  • Support the setup of Human Rights Committees, the establishment of Communities Action Plans (CAP) and follow up on actions taken.
  • Lead awareness and training sessions on relevant topics.
  • Support the establishment of Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) and children safeguarding systems, promote a culture of keeping children safe, and ensure that potential harm to children is identified and addressed on an ongoing basis through the relevant means (CLMRS, Grievance mechanisms...).
  • Support investigations of suspected cases and follow up on actions taken Stakeholder Engagement.
  • Link up and ensure synergies with relevant stakeholders in the designated communities/areas (local authorities, NGOs...).
Required Skills or Experience
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Social Science or Social Work with at least 3 years’ experience implementing community-based projects or programs, preferably in community development.
  • HND or A-level degree in Social Science, Social Work, or Mass Communication with 5 years of experience working in Community Engagement.
  • Understanding of the Human Rights considerations, regulations and challenges in the cocoa sector.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of the relevant local languages spoken in cocoa growing communities.
  • Community development facilitation skills and partnership synergies.
  • Good understanding of gender equality and inclusion and experience with integrating these issues into programming.
  • Patient, adaptable, flexible, able to improvise and remain responsive and communicate clearly and effectively under pressure.
  • Experience engaging with farmers and communities.
