Our experienced team members are our most precious asset, having discovered, explored and developed more than 24Moz of gold resources and reserves in Ghana; and having managed Ghana’s largest underground mine.About This RoleResponsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining control systems that enhance operational performance and ensure industrial processes' safe, efficient automation. This role involves programming PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), configuring SCADA/HMI systems, and integrating sensors, drives, and control hardware to support production and process automation objectives.Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and modify ladder logic, function block, or structured text code for various PLC brands (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider).
  • Troubleshoot PLC-related issues in real-time and support plant maintenance teams during breakdowns or shutdowns.
  • Design, configure, and maintain SCADA and HMI systems for process monitoring, alarms, and control visualization.
  • Interface human-machine interfaces with underlying control systems to ensure user-friendly operations.
  • Integrate PLCs with peripheral devices such as sensors, actuators, VFDs, servo motors, and other control components.
  • Ensure seamless communication across control networks, including Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, etc.
  • Lead or participate in automation and control system projects, from requirements gathering to commissioning and documentation.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and process engineers to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Implement and monitor preventive maintenance schedules for control systems.
  • Maintain backups and change management for PLC and HMI programs.
  • Ensure control systems comply with safety and regulatory requirements (e.g., SIL, IEC 61508).
  • Contribute to hazard analysis and risk assessments involving control systems.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, including wiring diagrams, control logic narratives, and user manuals.
  • Prepare technical reports and recommend process improvements.
[ad2]Education, Work Experience & Key Competencies
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Control Systems, or Automation Engineering.
  • Minimum of six 6 years of experience in industrial automation or process control.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Allen-Bradley RS Logix/Studio 5000).
  • Hands-on experience with SCADA/HMI platforms (e.g., WinCC, Wonderware, Ignition).
  • MINCOM Inspecting or Sectional Engineer certificate of competency
  • Experience in industries such as mining, manufacturing, oil & gas, or food processing.
  • Certification in automation or PLC technologies (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens).
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, VBA) or database interfaces for data integration.
  • Strong understanding of control panel design, instrumentation, and electrical schematics.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols and networking fundamentals.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and control logic flow.
