The department also houses efforts to launch Ashesi’s Law with Public Policy Program, which prepares students for private, public, non-profit, and non-governmental careers. The program is also an excellent foundation for postgraduate study in multiple sub-disciplines of the Law.Our courses encourage students to explore the connections between various pieces of information, question assumptions, and analyse different perspectives. Through this comprehensive approach, we aim to help students develop ideas on how to shape Africa’s diverse societies for future generations.About the RoleThe Department Coordinator for the Law and Public Policy Department provides administrative, academic, and operational support to ensure the smooth functioning of the department. The role bridges faculty, students, and administrative units of the university, ensuring that teaching, learning, accreditation, and departmental operations run effectively.Key Responsibilities:Administrative and Operational Support
  • Maintain up-to-date departmental records, including faculty CVs, teaching loads, research activities, and contact details.
  • Manage departmental budgets and liaise with Finance on payments, reconciliations, and expenditure tracking.
  • Schedule departmental meetings, record minutes, and track action items.
  • Provide administrative support to the Head of Department (HOD), including managing the calendar.
  • Organize departmental events including the law week.
Academic Quality Assurance
  • Support accreditation and reaccreditation processes for the Law program.
  • Coordinate moderation of syllabi and assessments, ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Collaborate with Academic Affairs to facilitate student course evaluations and track feedback.
  • Facilitate course and final examination moderation at the beginning of every semester.
  • Review and update the academic catalogue at the beginning of each academic year upon the request of the academic affairs.
  • Facilitate submission and signing of final grade reports.
  • Facilitate events by providing supports such as booking venues, ensuring set up etc.
Faculty and Faculty Intern Support
  • Assist in recruitment, onboarding, and orientation of adjunct, full-time, and visiting faculty, as well as Faculty Interns (FIs).
  • Assist in the development of personnel and teaching plans for the academic year.
  • Provide guidance to Faculty Interns on academic and classroom-related challenges.
  • Coordinate the hiring cycle of Faculty Interns, including calls for applications, scheduling interviews, and final selection.
  • Collect and share information on faculty research, publications, and professional development.
Institutional Engagement
  • Assist the Head of Department in departmental planning and execution of initiatives.
  • Serve as liaison between the department and other administrative units such as Academic Affairs, Registry, Library, and HR.
  • Contribute to departmental communication, including updates to the Law Department webpage and distribution of key information to faculty and students.
Qualifications and Skills
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree required; an additional qualification is a plus.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in higher education administration is an advantage.
