- Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Assist in the development and implementation of health, safety and environmental policies and procedures in accordance with local and international regulations.
- Conduct risk assessments and collaborate with site managers and engineers to implement effective control measures.
- Provide safety training to employees and contractors, including toolbox talks and inductions.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and provide recommendations for preventive measures.
- Keep abreast of changes in health and safety legislation and ensure company compliance.
- Collaborate with project teams to develop emergency response plans and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and training sessions.
- Coordinate with relevant authorities for necessary permits and approvals related to health, safety and environment.
- Participate in regular safety meetings and provide updates on safety performance.
- Conduct regular equipment and machinery inspections to ensure they meet safety standards.
- Collaborate with supervisors to establish and maintain a positive safety culture within the organization.
- Ensure the provision and use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) on sites.
- Prepare and submit regular reports on health and safety performance to HSE Lead.
- Performs any other allied duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Health and Safety Lead or his designate.
- Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety and Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years proven experience as a Health and Safety Officer in the construction or mining industry.
- Being a Mincom certified Safety Officer will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge of local and international health and safety regulations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to conduct effective training sessions and toolbox talks.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to safety.
- Certification in occupational health and safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with construction equipment and processes.
- Having a Valid Driver's License with at least 18 months of driving manual vehicle is preferable.
