REPORTING TO: Deputy Director, Physical Development, Planning and Transport, PDMSDJOB ROLE
- The University of Ghana’s Physical Development Planning and Transport Division, under the PDMSD, among others, oversees, designs, implements, and maintains electrical infrastructure and systems within the University.
- The role involves providing technical leadership in the planning, development, and maintenance of electrical systems that support campus operations, sustainability, and safety.
- Electrical Systems Planning and Design: Develop and oversee electrical system designs for new construction, renovations, and infrastructure projects in compliance with national, international and emerging new standards.
- Maintenance and Repairs: Oversee and ensure the regular maintenance and repair of electrical systems, power distribution networks, and backup systems to avoid disruptions.
- Energy Management and Sustainability: Develop energy efficiency strategies, integrate renewable energy solutions, and implement smart energy-saving technologies to reduce operational costs.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with electrical safety codes, university policies, and Ghanaian regulatory standards.
- Collaboration and Coordination: Work closely with architects, civil engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure the seamless integration of electrical systems into overall physical development plans.
- Technical Documentation: Maintain accurate records, drawings, and reports on all electrical installations and modifications.
- Emergency Response and Risk Assessment: Lead the response to electrical faults, outages, and emergencies to minimize downtime.
- Training and Capacity Building: Provide technical training to junior engineers, technicians, and other personnel.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Professional certification or membership with IET-GH or GhIE or an equivalent international recognized professional body.
- A valid Engineering Practicing License from the Engineering Council of Ghana.
- A valid Practicing License from the Energy Commission of Ghana.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant post-qualification experience in electrical engineering, power systems, or infrastructure development.
- A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline would be an added advantage.
- Experience in large-scale construction projects, facility management, and energy-efficient system design.
- Proven track record in project management, including supervision of electrical contractors and vendors.
- Strong knowledge of electrical power distribution systems, transformers, circuit breakers, and renewable energy technologies.
- Proficiency in electrical design software (AutoCAD, ETAP etc.).
- Familiarity with National Building Code, IEEE, IEC, and other electrical standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent knowledge of safety and environmental compliance.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot electrical faults efficiently.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level of integrity and professional ethics.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

- Applicants must have served a minimum of two years in a Senior Staff role at the University of Ghana, and must be able to serve a minimum of 4 years in the role before reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60 years.
