- The Grant Accountant is a business partnering role, reporting to the Finance Director and working closely with the Operations team and in particular the Compliance Manager and Regional Managers.
- His/Her main responsibilities are on financial reporting on all grants. The Grant Accountant will report to the Director, Finance and IT.
- Work with Director, Finance & IT to ensure optimal deployment of resources to achieve departmental and corporate organizational goals
- Develop and maintain the master spreadsheet of staff costs, activities and overhead funding allocation
- Support the development of project budgets at the proposal stage in collaboration with the Operation Team
- Provide support to the Operations Team in developing regional budgets and spend
- Liaise with London Head Office for the creation of new project codes and relevant donor reporting lines (DRLs) and set up project budgets in SUN6/Finance software
- Manage the aspect of sub-grants, ensure that financial report are submitted on time, review compliance report and address any discrepancies
- Prepare financial report in donor format, produce financial commentaries and ensure that accurate financial report in donors
- Work with operations on monthly expenditure and report on individual spend and advise on improvement
- Prepare final financial report and ensure full reconciliation and closure at the end of the project, including assets and stocks
- Support year end auditing process and disseminate relevant DRLs, project code to relevant staff in the organization
- Any other duties assigned
- Bachelor of Accountancy or Finance or equivalent
- Qualified accountant/final level partly or MBA/Master's in accounting and finance related field
- Short courses in financial management will be an advantage
- A minimum of 4 years experience working for an international NGO in a similar position or role
- Experience of financial grant management for at least one of the following donor USAID, DFID and European Commission
- Proven experience of increasing cost effectiveness and compliance and reducing financial risk through improved internal controls
- Excellent knowledge of financial management systems and reporting
- Ability to perform under pressure, handle heavy workloads and meet stringent reporting deadlines and strong collaboration and people centred skills
- Able to work on own intiative and at long periods
- Computer literate and hands-on experience with computerized accounting systems, knowledge of SUN systems
- Good understanding of project life cycle management and analytical skills
- Cross-functional team player, strong relationship building and negotiation skills
- Trustworthy and principled, zero tolerance for fraud
- Strong commitment to the goals and vision of MSIG
