- Manage and ensure proper functioning of the internal audit department
- Liaise with external auditors to coordinate audit functions
- Provide reasonable assurance on audit engagements to Senior management and the Board of Directors
- Provide useful advice on adequacy and effectiveness on the company's internal control, risk management practices and the governance systems
- Direct the planning of audit engagements are completed on schedule
- Ensure that reports on internal auditing engagements are provided to the audit committee with minimum delay on quarterly and annual basis
- Through annual reporting, provide a holistic opinion on the effectiveness and adequacy of risk management, control and governance process to the Board of Directors
- Conduct an annual risk assessment of the company
- Annually establish a Risk-based audit plan to set out the priorities of the internal audit function, consistent with the organisational objectives
- Ascertain the extent to which he company complies with precribed plans, policies, procedures and all regulatory requirements
- Assign duties and monitor activities of team members in order to achieve set targets
- Annually assess the performance of internal audit staff
- Identify learning and development needs of internal audit staff and recommend training and/or other interventions for them
- Undertake any other duties as may be assigned by the CEO or the Board of Directors
- Minimum qualification of a First Degree, preferably in Accounting
- Chartered Accountant / Certified Internal Auditor
- Plus a minimum of 7 years experience, 5 of which should be in the insurance industry
- Good knowledge in Auditing Practices (Both internal and or external)
- Good understanding of the internal audit standards and ability to apply the standards to daily auditing functions
- Skills in analysing and interpreting financial information
- Good knowledge of insurance law and other relevant laws
