Our projects apply our successful model of landscape restoration, providing a solution to three of the world’s most critical environmental problems: the need for effective solutions to mitigate global climate change; holistic restoration of the world’s most degraded landscapes; and a growing population that requires sustainable alternatives for consumer products and markets that still contribute to deforestation and deforestation driven emissions.In Ghana, EcoPlanet Bamboo is restoring the North Bandai and Bandai Hills Forest Reserves outside Asante Akyem Agogo in the Ashanti Region, where over 11,000 hectares are being reforested with bamboo and native trees, and key conservation areas protected.[ad]EcoPlanet is seeking an experienced and qualified GIS & Planning Manager in Ghana having a combination of technical expertise in ArcGIS, project management skills, and leadership capabilities. The ideal candidate should be able to lead the development and implementation of GIS strategies for planning, quality control and monitoring of operations. They should also possess strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills with the ability to manage a small team.RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead and oversee all spatial data management activities related to operational design, implementation and associated mapping of accomplishments in country.
  • Build and manage spatial data in ArcGIS, ensuring real-time visibility of project activities and status through accurate, standardized mapping outputs.
  • Track information from different activities and provide spatial analysis of operational needs and achievements from activity planning to implementation to monitoring.
  • Develop and manage tools to be used by management and field teams to support reforestation management and decision making, including mapping and data management.
  • Oversee the company’s monitoring SOPs from conducting monitoring to reporting results to seeing corrective actions occur.
  • Train and mentor existing GIS and Monitoring teams and build additional capacity towards the scaling of GIS, mapping and monitoring needs of the project.
  • Develop and maintain GIS standards, protocols, and best practices, ensuring continuity across the company’s Ghana operations and tying into corporate standards.
  • Oversee the delivery of high-resolution orthomosaic maps to project funders as may be periodically required.
  • Oversee monitoring events associated with delivery of carbon validation and verification events and producing required mapping outputs.
  • Perform other tasks as may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelors in GIS & Remote Sensing plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in current Earth Observation tools, technologies and best practices.
  • Experience with forestry or agricultural operational planning.
  • Experience setting up and managing databases.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with a low level of supervision and as a part of a team when required;
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Willingness to be in the field rain or shine.Ability to ride a motorcycle.
  • Ability to ride a motorcycle.
  • Drone pilot skills and experience desired.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
