- Conduct preliminary and routine eye examinations (visual acuity, refraction, intraocular pressure, slit lamp assessments, etc.) under supervision.
- Support Optometrist in diagnosing eye conditions and preparing patients for advanced clinical tests.
- Educate patients on eye health, eyewear use, contact lens care, and preventive practices.
- Assist in patient case documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with medical standards.
- Provide support in minor ocular procedures where permitted by regulation.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain ophthalmic equipment (autorefractor, keratometer, tonometer, OCT, fundus camera, etc.).
- Conduct spectacle frame selection, lens verification, and accurate fitting of spectacles/contact lenses.
- Assist in managing optical laboratory functions such as lens edging, repairs, and adjustments.
- Schedule and manage patient appointments, ensuring efficient clinic flow.
- Maintain accurate patient files, prescriptions, and treatment histories.
- Support inventory control of optical frames, lenses, contact lenses, and diagnostic equipment.
- Assist with billing, invoicing, and health insurance documentation.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Optometry (mandatory).
- Registered and licensed Optometrist with the Optometrists & Dispensing Opticians Board of Ghana.
- Minimum of 3 years’ proven clinical experience as a practicing Optometrist.
- Strong experience in performing eye examinations, refraction tests, and contact lens fitting.
- Exposure to patient counseling and diagnostic interpretation.
- Proficiency in operating advanced ophthalmic diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to interpret and explain test results to both patients and senior clinicians.
- Strong knowledge of ocular diseases, refractive errors, and preventive eye care.
- Competence in lens types, coatings, spectacle adjustments, and repairs.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in diagnosis and prescriptions.
- Strong patient communication and education skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a busy clinic environment.
- Organizational and time management skills.
- IT literacy for patient management systems and digital records.
- Accuracy and reliability of clinical assessments.
- Patient satisfaction and retention.
- Compliance with professional and regulatory standards.
