- To provide technical and administrative leadership for effective and efficient performance of the transport management function of the organisation
- Provide overall management of the organisation's fleet of vehicles
- Provide inputs for the formulation of transport policies
- Maintain an up-to-date database of all of the organisations vehicles information on the location of each vehicle at every point in time
- Ensure drivers have the appropriate class and valid licences to operate the organisations vehicles
- Oversee the implementation of guidelines, procedures and safety standards on transport management
- Oversee the management of the vehicle workshop
- Introduce and manage a vehicle tracking systems to ensure the authorised and accoutable use of the organisation's vehicles
- Oversee the implementation of performance management system within the unit
- Provide advice and guidelines on the acquisition, distribution, maintenance, utilisation and disposal of the organisation's fleet.
- Be responsible for the preparation of monthly reports of the unit.
- Ensure compliance with the usage of the organisation's vehicles
- Develop a system to monitor and record usage and mileages of vehicles to ensure that vehicles are used for approved purposes
- Implement a system to ensure that maintenance schedules of all the organisation's vehicles are adhered to
- Institute a system of rewards and sanctions to apply to all users of the organisation's vehicles
- Keep a record all repairs and servicing conducted as well as cost of repairs and servicing done for the purpose of monitoring and evaluation
- Develop regular training programmes for users of the organisation's vehicles
- Recommend a sustainably affordable insurance policy for the organisation's vehicles
- Prepare and submit to the organisation annual performance report on staff with respect to the use of the organsiation's vehicles
- Perform any other related duty when required
- A minimum of a Masters degree from an accredited tertiary institution in transport and logistics, mechanical engineering or any other related field
- Must be a member of a relevant professional body
- Ability to assess potential mechanical problems and advise on preventive maintenance and repair
- Proven leadership and management skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- A minimum of 6 years of post Bachelor's Degree relevant work experience in a reputable organisation, 2 years of which must be in a senior management position
- Must pass a selection interview conducted by the organisation in collaboration with the Public Services Commission
