Our experienced team members are our most precious asset, having discovered, explored and developed more than 24Moz of gold resources and reserves in Ghana; and having managed Ghana's largest underground mine.About This RoleThis role will be responsible to act as a trusted safety advisor and key resource for operational supervisors, employees and contractors by supporting the maintenance of a safe and healthy working environment and by actively promoting a strong culture of health, safety and environmental awareness across the site.Key Responsibilities
  • Respond promptly to surface emergencies, including fires, gas incidents and structural failures.
  • Support the execution of day‑to‑day site Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) activities by providing effective technical guidance and contributing to the implementation of the site's Health and Safety Management System.
  • Assist with compliance audits, workplace inspections, risk assessments and safety evaluations to ensure effective HSE management and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and enforce adherence to safe work procedures, promoting a proactive safety culture aimed at preventing injuries, protecting assets, and minimizing environmental impact. Promptly escalate any conditions posing an immediate danger to life or health to operational supervisors, unit managers and HSE leadership.
  • Support the development and review of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) to identify critical controls and implement appropriate risk‑reduction measures.
  • Ensure employees and contractors receive adequate safety information, training and awareness upon engagement and throughout the duration of their work.
  • Facilitate regular safety meetings, toolbox talks and safety discussions with employees and contractor personnel.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of the site Emergency Response Plan and assist in coordinating emergency response activities to minimize injuries, damage and potential losses.
  • Coordinate and deliver site inductions and basic safety training programmes for employees and contractors.
  • Prepare and submit accurate weekly and monthly HSE performance and activity reports to the Senior Safety Officer.
  • Coordinate the development and maintenance of equipment registers and inspection schedules to ensure all equipment is regularly inspected and maintained as fit for purpose.
  • Conduct routine site inspections and safety walks to maintain visible safety leadership and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Review personal protective equipment (PPE) specifications and quality and ensure proper usage, care, and maintenance across the site.
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Education, Work Experience & Key Competencies
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working as a Safety Officer in the mining, construction, or similar industrial environment.
  • Non‑degree holders must have 7–10 years' relevant HSE experience.
  • NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) in Occupational Health and Safety is mandatory.
  • Must possess a Minerals Commission HSE Officer Certificate of Competency.
  • Valid Ghanaian Class C Driver's License is required.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively present and explain HSE topics to employees and contractors.
  • In‑depth knowledge of Ghanaian health and safety legislation, particularly the Minerals and Mining (Health, Safety and Technical) Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2182) and related legislative instruments.
  • Solid understanding of Health and Safety Management Systems.
  • Proven knowledge and practical experience in risk management and loss prevention processes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with confidence in engaging and influencing the workforce on HSE matters.
  • Strong information management, monitoring and reporting skills.
  • Well‑developed planning, organizing and prioritization abilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and strong personal safety awareness.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Goal‑oriented, reliable and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
