The Grant Writer is responsible for researching, writing, and submitting compelling grant proposals to foundations, corporations, and government agencies to secure funding for the university's academic programs, research initiatives, capital projects, and other institutional priorities.This role requires a strong understanding of the liberal arts mission, excellent written and verbal communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.   • Proactively research and identify potential grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government agencies that align with the university's mission, strategic plan, and specific project needs.
  • Utilize grant research databases and other resources to stay abreast of current funding trends and opportunities.
  • Maintain an organized pipeline of prospective funders and upcoming deadlines.
Proposal Development and Writing
  • Write clear, concise and persuasive grant proposals, letters of inquiry, concept papers, and other grant-related correspondence.
  • Work closely with faculty, deans, and program directors to gather necessary information, data, and budgetary details for proposals.
  • Translate complex academic and research concepts into accessible language for a general audience.
  • Ensure all proposals adhere strictly to funder guidelines and requirements.
  • Develop compelling narratives that articulate the university's unique strengths, impact, and need for funding.
Budget Development and Financial Management
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop accurate and justifiable project budgets that align with proposal narratives.
  • Ensure budget details are clearly presented and compliant with funder requirements.
Relationship Management
  • Assist in cultivating and stewarding relationships with current and prospective funders.
  • Collaborate with the advancement team on donor cultivation strategies related to grant funding.
Reporting and Compliance
  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate grant reports to funders, detailing project progress, outcomes, and financial expenditures.
  • Ensure compliance with all grant terms and conditions, working closely with relevant university departments (e.g., finance, research administration).
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all grant activities, submissions, and outcomes in the university's database.
Internal Collaboration and Communication
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders regarding grant opportunities, proposal progress, and reporting requirements.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to overall advancement strategies.
Professional Development
  • Stay informed about best practices in grant writing, philanthropy, and the higher education landscape.
  • Attend relevant workshops, webinars, and conferences as appropriate.

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution is preferred; degrees in English, Communications, NGO Management or a related field are highly desirable.
  • 3-5 years of demonstrated experience in grant writing, preferably in a higher education or non-profit environment.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Strong research and analytical abilities.
  • Proficiency in using grant research databases (e.g., Foundation Directory Online, Grants.gov).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with CRM software (e.g., Blackbaud Raiser's Edge, Salesforce).
  • Demonstrated success in securing significant grants from foundations, corporations, or government agencies.
